Enfield Council are supporting businesses and organisations across the borough to use cargo bikes for deliveries of goods and services through our Cargo around Enfield trial.

We are offering free advice and one-off subsides to help businesses in Enfield switch to either using a third-party cargo bike delivery service, or to put towards the purchase of your own bike. The subsidies are up to £500 and are available until the end of June 2024.

Changing the way goods and services are delivered across the borough by using cargo bikes where there is an opportunity to do so helps to improve local air quality, reduce congestion and contributes to Enfield Council’s Climate Action Plan.

How businesses can apply

Cargo around Enfield subsidies are available to small to medium sized businesses that are based in the borough. The scheme is running until the end of June 2024.

You can apply for either:

  • Up to £500 towards purchasing or leasing a cargo bike.
  • 50% off up to a maximum subsidy of £150 towards the cost of using a cargo bike courier service to make your deliveries.

If you would like to apply, please use the project contact form below and someone from the MP Smarter Travel team will be in touch.

How does it work?

Enfield Council are working with MP Smarter Travel to help Enfield businesses make the switch to cargo bikes.

In addition to the subsidies listed above, the MP Smarter Travel team and the Journeys and Places team are offering:

  • Free impartial expert advice on the best cargo bike or service to suit your budget or businesses needs.
  • Marketing and promotion as a showcase of good practice for clean and sustainable business deliveries.

Switch to cargo bikes for a cleaner, more efficient business

Cargo bikes have lower running costs compared to vans. There is no congestion charge, ULEZ or parking fees. They can also be faster than a van as the bike can avoid traffic by using cycle lanes and smaller residential roads.

Cargo bikes offer an alternative to cars and vans for local trips with some models able to take up to 300kg. They are cheap to run, efficient through busy traffic, ULEZ compliant, free to park, good for the environment and great marketing for businesses. With zero exhaust emissions, cargo bikes can help cut local air pollution levels and help you do your bit to reduce your businesses emissions as we work to reach net zero carbon emissions in Enfield. Using a cargo bike also reduces noise from traffic and road danger, creating a more pleasant urban environment.

Demonstrate your commitment to sustainability to your customers. Cargo bikes are easy to brand with your company logo if you go down the route of purchasing one.
